RiverHawks fall 12-6 to Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn scored seven unanswered runs to clinch a series win, 12-6, over the RiverHawks Sunday afternoon.

Ty Van Meter had three RBI and a pair of hits, and Drew Miller homered for the fourth time and scored two RBI.  The loss drops the RiverHawks to 10-10, and they are now 4-5 MIAA.

Washburn plated a run in the first and third innings before Miller blasted a homer on a 1-0 pitch to center during the fourth.

The Ichabods extended their lead by a pair in the fifth and dealt a knockout blow plating five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-1 lead.

Matt Kaiser had an RBI single in the seventh, and Van Meter had a two-RBI double to narrow the gap to six.  However, Washburn grabbed those runs back in the eighth, plating three on four hits.

Miller and Van Meter had RBI hits in the ninth, but the gap would be too much to overcome as Washburn improves to 15-8, 8-1 MIAA.

Northeastern State visits Central Oklahoma next on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. first pitch in Edmond.
