RiverHawks unable to dig out of early hole

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Northeastern State dug itself into an early hole and dropped its opening game at Pittsburg State 11-7 Saturday. 

C.D. White had a four-hit, three-RBI game, and Kademon Graff had a pair of hits and two RBI in the setback.  The loss to Pitt State drops the RiverHawks to 10-12 overall (4-7 MIAA).

The Gorillas (16-7,8-3 MIAA) scored five runs in the opening two innings, with one being earned.  Northeastern State's infield committed three errors, and its batters struck out 15 times.  Pitt State starter Zac Shoemaker punched out 12 in six innings, and once the middle relievers took over, NSU came alive in the seventh and eighth. 

Graff and White hit RBI doubles in the seventh, cutting the Pitt State lead to 9-3.  The RiverHawks continued to pour in runs scoring four in the eighth.  Blake Freeman and Drew Miller had RBI singles, and White scored two more on a single to right field.  Pitt State countered in the bottom half of the inning, adding a pair of runs and extending their lead to four.

Due to the cold weather, the series will conclude with a doubleheader Sunday starting at noon.
