Game Recap: Softball |

Softball takes two from Northern State

TAHLEQUAH – Savannah Evans spun a no-hitter in game one, and Chloe Bohuslavicky tied her one single-season program mark for homers as the RiverHawks clubbed Northern State 8-0 and 9-1 in five innings Friday afternoon.

Northeastern State run-ruled its foe for the fourth time this season and improved to 16-8 overall.  Due to cold weather conditions, both games were not originally scheduled to be played in Tahlequah and were moved from Pittsburg, Kansas.

In the opener, Northeastern State was gifted a pair of runs in the first, scoring on an errant throw to second and a passed ball.

After a scoreless inning, the RiverHawks batted through the order in the third and fourth.  Addy Wolfe homered in both innings, hitting a three-run shot and a solo bomb to center.  Raegan Edwards also hit a two-run shot as part of a five-run fourth inning for NSU.

Evans needed only 60 pitches and faced one over the minimum for her first no-hitter in an NSU uniform and second of the season for its pitching staff.  The junior struck out five batters and is 6-4 this year in the circle.

Much like the first game, Northern State gifted the RiverHawks a pair of unearned runs in the second inning.  Bohuslavicky hit her 13th homer of the season, scoring three with two outs in the third.

The runs continued to pour in during the fourth, with NSU adding three more, pushing the Wolves to play the minimum.  A lead-off double by Northern in the fifth allowed for a two-out RBI to extend the game.  Evans opened things off with a triple to right field in the bottom half of the fame.   Allison Zanca followed up and hit a 1-2 pitch to right center to end the game in the fifth.

Madison Heinle allowed just three hits to move to 6-3 on the year.

Northern State falls to 6-11 overall and will face Central Oklahoma at RiverHawks Park for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday.  The RiverHawks will wrap up the series with Northern State Sunday at noon.
