TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State plated nine runs in the fourth inning and held off a late rally by Central Missouri to win 11-10 Sunday at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
The RiverHawks (9-7, 3-2 MIAA) snapped an eight-game winning streak by the Mules and smashed five homers on UCM's pitching staff.
Matt Kaiser bombed a pair of homers and had NSU's grand slam in the fourth inning, finishing the day with five RBI.
DeClaudio Irvin homered and had three RBI.
Isaiah Keller had a pair of RBI and a home run.
Ty Van Meter had a three-hit day at the plate, a home run, and earned the save at the end of the contest.
Northeastern State carried an 11-5 lead into the eighth, and the Mules, with two outs, scored five runs without making a hit. The RiverHawks walked in four runs and scored a fifth on a hit by pitch.
In the ninth, Central Missouri (11-6, 4-1 MIAA) would get two on with one out before they singled to right field. The Mules sent a runner home and would be tagged out of the plate; a second runner was feet behind, and NSU catcher
Brady Evans ended the day with a second tag in front of home plate.
Lee Callison (3-1) went seven innings and stuck out five batters to earn the win.
The RiverHawks and Mules close out the series Monday at 1 p.m.
