ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Northeastern State's
CJ Briley has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Pitcher of the Week following strong efforts in week nine.
Briley threw a gem for Northeastern State on April 8 against Fort Hays State, fanning nine across a complete-game 7.0-inning shutout. The southpaw allowed just two hits while walking three, recording 17 swinging strikes on 92 pitches for a strong 18.5% whiff rate. Briley's dominance limited Fort Hays State to just one runner reaching scoring position – advancing only as far as second base – as he faced no more than four batters in each of his seven frames.
The NCBWA Central Region committee consists of 15 voters with five representatives each from the GAC, MIAA and NSIC. Weekly regular season rankings began on February 13 and run through May 8. The Central Region of NCAA DII Baseball is comprised of three conferences – the Great American Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference – featuring 39 programs spanning nine states.
