CLAREMORE – Rogers State rallied from a three-run deficit in the eighth inning and beat Northeastern State, 7-6, on a walk-off double Friday.
The RiverHawks (16-21, 10-15 MIAA) allowed the second run to cross home plate in the eighth on an error. After getting the first batter to ground out in the ninth, the Hillcats had back-to-back batters reach on a hit by pitch. RSU catcher Joel Escalante capped a three-hit game with a double on a 1-1 pitch down the right field line allowing both runners on base to score.
Blake Freeman had three-RBI, and
Brayden Rodden had his fifth three-hit game of the season in the setback.
Lee Callison went 6.1 innings and struck out six batters in the no-decision.
Rogers State moves to 23-15, 11-14 MIAA with the win. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
