RiverHawks sweep Jets

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State finished the weekend on a strong note sweeping Newman 7-1 and 8-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The RiverHawks (25-18, 7-11 MIAA) carried the momentum of a five-run first in the opening game.  NSU batted through the order for four hits, and Chloe Bohuslavicky had a two-RBI double in the outburst.

Newman (15-31, 3-13 MIAA) scratched out a run in the third before Jaeden Rosenquist brought in two more runs in the bottom half on a single.

NSU had four doubles and 12 hits compared to Newman's six base knocks.  Savannah Evans had two hits and spun a complete game in the circle to move to 9-9 on the year.

In the nightcap, Newman held the lead until the fifth inning.  Bohuslavicky tied the game at 5-5 with on a first-pitch single up the middle, scoring Raegan Edwards and Rosenquist.  Addy Wolfe followed her at-bat with a two-run blast to left center to pull NSU ahead 7-5.

The Jets pushed a run across in the sixth before Bohuslavicky picked up her 42nd RBI of the year on a single in the bottom half.

Newman threatened in their final at-bats and opened the seventh with back-to-back hits.  The threat would be squashed by NSU starter Madison Heinle who had her 12th complete game of the year and is now 10-6 in the circle.

Emily Sampson had two hits and her fourth homer of the year in the second inning.

The RiverHawks remain home and will host Washburn this Friday at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
