TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State hit five home runs in the nightcap and closed out its home slate with a 7-2 win over Emporia State on Senior Day. The Hornets took the opener 7-1, with the RiverHawks going 2-2 on the weekend.
Emporia State (32-20,12-12 MIAA) scored four runs in the opening inning and added a fifth in the second, carrying the momentum in game one. The RiverHawks were left scoreless, down 7-0 in the sixth until they scored their lone run on a
Chloe Bohuslavicky double.
Savannah Evans (10-11) had two for the team's five hits, with five strikeouts in the circle.
In the nightcap, Evans broke a scoreless game in the third with her 13th homer of the season. Emporia State turned around in the fourth, scoring their lone runs on a one-out home run to left field.
The ESU lead was shortlived, and in the bottom of the fourth,
Addy Wolfe tied the NSU single-season home run mark of 15 with a solo shot to center.
Emily Sampson followed up with another solo shot to give the RiverHawks the lead. Following an ESU pitching change,
Allison Zanca added two more runs on NSU's third homer of the frame. Evans scored the fifth run of the inning on a double to right center to give them a 6-2 lead.
After a scoreless fifth, Bohuslavicky scored the team's seventh run on a two-out single through the right side.
The RiverHawks (27-20,9-13 MIAA) had 12 hits to Emporia's five, with
Madison Heinle (11-7) striking out seven batters.
NSU closes its regular season on the road, where they will face Nebraska-Kearney Friday at 2 p.m.
