SHAWNEE – Northeastern State's
Coby Tweten hit a grand slam in the eighth inning, but it wouldn't be enough Tuesday evening in an 8-6 loss to Oklahoma Baptist.
The junior had two of NSU's five hits in the non-conference tilt;
Blake Freeman opened the game with a triple and had a pair of base hits.
Oklahoma Baptist (18-15) scored three unearned runs, with the RiverHawks' infield inflicting four errors. The Bison scored six unanswered runs in the middle innings after taking the lead on a two-run homer in the sixth. OBU had three homers and 12 hits on NSU, who fell to 14-18 overall.
Tweten's homer came off a 1-1 pitch and was his fifth of the year to make it a 7-6 ballgame in the eighth. OBU opened the bottom frame off with a pair of singles and plated an insurance run on a sac fly.
Ty Van Meter (0-3) went 5.2 innings and struck out four batters;
Logan Stewart punched out three in 1.1 innings.
The RiverHawks will return to Thomas C. Rousey Field Thursday afternoon to open a three-game series with Fort Hays State.
