Lee Callison and a six RBI afternoon from third baseman
Ty Van Meter overwhelmed Washburn 14-1 Saturday in the MIAA Tournament.
Callison (6-4) tossed a no-hitter into the sixth and held the Ichabods to just a pair of hits as the RiverHawks will even the best-of-three-game series. The senior threw 109 pitches and struck out seven batters, one short of matching his season best.
Van Meter homered in the sixth and had a two-RBI double as part of an eight-run seven for the RiverHawks. The six RBI game matched a season-best for NSU.
Blake Freeman reached three times and had two hits to move his career total to 299.
C.D. White homered for the eighth time this year, and
Brayden Rodden had a three RBI afternoon.
All but one player had a hit, with five in the NSU lineup having two on the day.
Washburn's (30-21) lone run came in the seventh on a solo homer.
Northeastern State moves to 23-26 on the year with the win. The pair will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. for an elimination game, with the winner advancing to the MIAA Semifinals in Warrensburg, Mo., next weekend.
