EDMOND –
Halie Jones paced the RiverHawks with 21 points as they broke through Wednesday for their first road win of the season besting rivals Central Oklahoma 67-59.
Northeastern State snapped a six-game road skid that dated back to last season and turned back the Bronchos on their home court for the first time since 2016. Additionally, Wednesday's win brings NSU to 7-7 (3-5 MIAA) surpassing its win total from the previous season.
Jones shot 8-for-16 from the floor earning her fourth 20-point performance of the season and matching her point total from Saturday's home win against Missouri Western. The fifth-year senior also shot 3-for-4 from the arc and added six rebounds.
In her third game at NSU,
Emily Weathers hit double-digit scoring with ten points off the bench and had five rebounds.
Courtney Lee had 11 points and six rebounds.
Grace Abercrombie scored nine while adding six boards off the NSU bench.
The RiverHawks led Central for over 32 minutes and paced the Bronchos as many as 11 points. A sluggish fourth stanza allowed the game to tighten up and thanks to an 11-5 run, Central would get within three (57-53) with 2:35 remaining.
Central Oklahoma (2-13, 1-8 MIAA) faltered in the final minutes shooting a dismal 0-for-7 from the field before getting a layup in the final seconds. The RiverHawks didn't do themselves many favors shooting 2-for-9 from the field in the fourth but they pulled away at the free-throw line making 10-for-14.
Northeastern State shot 42 percent from the field and was +2 on the glass with 37, but turnovers plagued NSU throughout the night with 19 miscues. Central Oklahoma had 16 additional possessions and outscored NSU 22-to-7 on points off turnovers.
The RiverHawks remain on the road and will travel to Wichita, Kansas to see Newman at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
