Taylor scores and assists as RiverHawks sting Lady Hornets, 2-1

TAHLEQUAH -- Sydney Taylor recorded her fourth goal of the season and her third assist in a 2-1 win for Northeastern State over Emporia State.

The win marks NSU's first in-season triumph over ESU since Nov. 15, 2019 and gives the RiverHawks their ninth win of the campaign, their highest single-season total since 2019.

The match began with 35 minutes without a make before Rachel Reed broke the ice with her third goal of the season in the 36th minute, assisted by Taylor. The RiverHawks (9-4, 3-4 MIAA) outshot the Lady Hornets (5-5-2, 3-3-1 MIAA) 11-7 in the first half, taking a 1-nil lead to break.

Taylor re-emerged shortly after intermission with a 47th-minute goal to give the hosts a two-goal advantage. Despite ESU finishing NSU's shutout bid in the 62nd minute, the Lady Hornets could not overcome the deficit entirely before the 90-minute mark.

Nine different players logged attempts for Northeastern State across 14 shots in total, led by Whitney Gentry (three). Eileen Jeschke added two shots on goal, while goalkeeper Rebecca Partyka made six saves on the other end of the pitch.

The RiverHawks travel next week for a pair of away matches, starting with Central Oklahoma in Edmond on Friday night at 7 p.m.
