WICHITA, Kan. -- Northeastern State went up early, but Newman's offense carried them to a 5-1 win on Thursday evening.
The RiverHawks were edged 18-to-16 in shots as they fell to 2-4-3 overall (2-1 GAC/MIAA).
Northeastern State struck first quickly with Donovan Aparicio knocking in his first goal of the season in the third minute of the contest. He caught a pass from Carl Murch who had his first assist of the season.Â
The lead was short-lived for the RiverHawks and the Jets got an equalizer in the tenth minute, a go-ahead penalty kick came two minutes later. Newman closed out the half with its third tally of the game in the 38th minute.Â
Newman (5-3, 2-0 GAC/MIAA) stopped five shots by the RiverHawks at goal in the second half but extended their advantage scoring in the 51st and 84th minute.Â
The RiverHawks head next to Fort Hays State for a tilt on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
