TAHLEQUAH — Josie Jarvis scored a goal off a Whitney Gentry assist to boost Northeastern State to a 1-0 victory over Fort Hays State on Senior Night at DeLoache Field. The Friday festivities saw both players honored in pre-game for their contributions to the program.
The first half saw NSU (11-5, 5-5 MIAA) outshoot the Tigers (7-5-4, 4-4-2 MIAA) seven-to-one with four shots on goal. However, saves were made on all on-target tries and the match was scoreless at the break.
Jarvis logged her fifth goal across her NSU career and her first of the season from Gentry's second assist of the campaign in the opening minute of the second half. Goalkeeper Rebecca Partyka and the Northeastern State defense would preserve their seventh shutout of the campaign to secure their seventh win at DeLoache Field in 2024.
The win proves pivotal, as it moves NSU past FHSU into sixth in the MIAA standings with 15 points and four points above the cut-line for the conference tournament as two matches remain in the regular season.
Northeastern State hosts Nebraska Kearney at 1 p.m. Sunday for their final home match of the season.
