TAHLEQUAH – An explosive start to the second half handed Northeastern State an 81-61 home victory over Emporia State Thursday evening.
The win snapped a 12-game skid to the Lady Hornets and is the largest margin of victory for NSU against Emporia State. Additionally, the RiverHawks hit a double-digit win total for the first time since the 2017-18 season moving to 10-10 (6-8 MIAA).
Northeastern State blistered Emporia State with 15 three-pointers their best against a NCAA team this season.
Grace Abercrombie landed five of those and had 20 points off the bench to lead the RiverHawks.
Courtney Lee recorded a double-double with 13 points and had ten rebounds.
Tess Talo Tomokino and
Emily Weathers added 12 and
Tor'e Alford was an assist short of a double-double with 11 points.
The RiverHawks trailed through the majority of the first half but came out of the locker room on fire, storming with 15 unanswered points. Emporia State (9-11, 6-8 MIAA) missed their first seven shot attempts and were a non-factor the rest of the way.
Northeastern State shared the ball with 25 assists their best effort against an NCAA team since Nov. 22, 2017 (24, vs. Southern Arkansas). From the field, they were 31-for-58 and 11-for-16 in the third stanza.
The RiverHawks will return to the floor on Saturday to host Washburn at 1:30 p.m.
