ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western took the Sunday finale of an MIAA-opening series against Northeastern State in a 20-10 win at Griffon Baseball Field.
Similar to the previous two days, the bats were active, as the teams merged for 27 base hits and 30 combined runs. Like Saturday, NSU (9-7, 1-2 MIAA) got the sparks lit first, with Korben Ford hitting a two-RBI home run and driving in another in the second with a single into center field before the Griffons (9-4, 2-1 MIAA) got things fired up with nine runs across the bottom of the inning and into the third.
NSU never led again, and the struggles containing the MWSU bats led to a short start for Chance Condit, who only saw 1.1 innings of action before the RiverHawks gave the ball to Jacob Bowman, the first of six relievers to see the mound in the difficult afternoon.
Every player in the order for NSU had a base hit, with three from the bat of Brooks Miller from the designated hitter spot. Ford and C.D. White accompanied Miller with multi-hit games in the loss, with the infielders both tallying two hits, while Gage Williams homered for the first time in his NSU career in the setback.
Northeastern State is back at Rousey Field to host Central Missouri from Mar. 1-3 in Tahlequah.
