EDMOND, Okla. -- Five consecutive scoring innings helped guide Central Oklahoma to a Tuesday night victory over Northeastern State in a 9-4 result.
The RiverHawks (10-14, 1-9 MIAA) found themselves in an early 3-0 hole after the opening frame, with the Bronchos (19-5, 6-4 MIAA) tallying five of their 14 base hits on the evening in the first to claim the early lead. A run scored for the hosts in the next four innings, as well, while NSU's only response in that timespan was an RBI single from
Tyson Fourkiller in the top of the fifth stanza to drive home
Brooks Miller.
A two-run homer in the seventh inning led the Bronchos to a 9-1 lead, which the RiverHawks nearly cut in half with a three-run ninth inning. Miller found his third and final base hit, driving in two runs off an RBI double, while Fourkiller provided his second RBI of the game off a sacrifice fly into center field.
Runs from
Isaiah Keller,
Devin Blayney and
Korben Ford brought the contest to five but was nowhere near enough to give the team a chance to end their MIAA losing streak, which extends to nine games with the Tuesday setback.
Cole White got the start on the hill but only made it through 1.2 innings after allowing four earned runs.
Ian Mason,
Christian Johnson,
Jacob Bowman and
Kyle Duffey all saw action in relief roles, of which Johnson went the longest at 4.1 innings thrown. The junior also logged six of the team's seven strikeouts against the UCO bats.
Northeastern State hosts Newman Friday through Sunday at Thomas C. Rousey Field, with Friday's contest scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
