TAHLEQUAH –
C.D. White was responsible for four of Northeastern State's 15 hits and received the win from the mound as the RiverHawks run-ruled Newman Saturday evening in a series-clinching 15-5 win that finished in the bottom of the seventh inning.
After surrendering a solo homer in the opening frame, the RiverHawks (12-14, 3-9 MIAA) got back in charge with three runs scoring in the bottom half of the inning. After the Jets (4-23, 0-12 MIAA) evened the game up in the top half of the second with a two-run outburst, the RiverHawks re-established control with five runs scoring in the same inning.
The visiting side would score twice more with a single run in both the third and sixth but were outdone by five runs in that same time by the hosts, most notably with three arising from
Drew Miller's fourth home run of the campaign in the bottom of the sixth. Meanwhile, a two-RBI single from
Matt Kaiser ended the matchup early with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Three RBI accompanied White's four hits, while he prevented NU from generating more than two runs in a single frame and was tagged with three earned runs across six innings pitched en route to his first win of the season.
Jessie Moreno III threw a scoreless inning in relief of White. Also registering multi-hit efforts were
Brooks Miller,
Ty Van Meter,
Tyson Fourkiller and
Gage Williams.
Northeastern State will finish the series with game three tomorrow at 1 p.m.
