MARYVILLE, Mo. — Northeastern State was held to five base hits and dropped Saturday's late afternoon contest to Northwest Missouri, 9-3.
The RiverHawks (20-25, 11-18) fell behind early after the Bearcats (18-26, 10-19) scored five runs in the second inning. All of NSU's scores appeared in the top of the fourth, bringing the deficit down to two, before four more runs for NWMSU across the middle third of the matchup placed the contest out of reach.
Five different players finished with a base hit, with Brooks Miller (two RBI) and Ty Van Meter (one RBI) responsible for driving in runs.
C.J. Briley was tagged with the loss, while Christian Johnson and Trey Havens appeared in relief, with Havens striking out a team-best three batters on the day.
The series ends tomorrow with game three, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
