BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Northeastern State found offense in the form of ten base hits and seven scores, but failed to overcome an early hole in a Friday loss to Washburn.
The RiverHawks (20-28, 11-20 MIAA) fell behind in the early innings, thanks to a four-run display from the Ichabods (27-19, 19-12 MIAA) in the second and an additional run in the third to place the visitors up, 5-0.
Northeastern found their first of two multi-score innings in the third, with a three run offering, with two from a walk and a hit batter. However, Washburn never let the lead get to fewer than two runs and powered with a 5-1 scoring stretch over the last three innings to pull out the win.
Drake Sisemore received the loss after allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings. The bullpen saw the rest of the contest, with eight more arms being used by NSU.
Drew Miller, Brooks Miller and Austin Albright homered in the loss. Drew led the way with three hits, while Kaiser and Brooks recorded two-hit performances.
The RiverHawks play game two of the three-game series tomorrow in Broken Arrow, Okla. at 2 p.m.
