RiverHawks sweep Lopers on Senior Day

BROKEN ARROW – Northeastern State closed out its softball season with a pair of wins on Saturday over Nebraska-Kearney with the RiverHawks getting a walk-off homer from Emily Sampson to take game one 5-4 and took the nightcap 6-1.  The finale was played at Broken Arrow High School due to field conditions at RiverHawks Park in Tahlequah.

Northeastern State scored four unanswered runs with Drew Hawkins having a three-hit game.  Brynn Burchfield reached four times with three walks and a base knock.

The Lopers (18-31, 6-20 MIAA) had four hits and scored a pair of runs in the sixth to even the game at four runs.
Sampson, a senior playing in her final doubleheader, parked a 2-1 pitch to far left field for her fourth homer of the season, snapping a six-game skid for NSU.

Korynn Tindel (3-11) went 2.1 innings and earned the win in relief.

The RiverHawks had ten hits and swiped in five bases.

In the nightcap, UNK scored in the opening inning but it was all NSU the rest of the way with the RiverHawks plating three in the second and fourth innings.

Allison Zanca went 3-for-3 with the team having a curtain call for its senior class in the sixth and seventh innings.

Madison Heinle (7-20) went 5.1 innings and struck out four batters.

The RiverHawks close their season with a 10-35 record (5-21 MIAA).
