TAHLEQUAH --
Jessie Moreno III pitched 5.2 scoreless innings to guide Northeastern State through the majority of the contest en route to a 3-2 win over Rogers State.
The win clinches the series for the RiverHawks (19-18, 10-12 MIAA) against the Hillcats (18-16, 9-13 MIAA). It is their fourth consecutive MIAA series win, while it is the third straight season where NSU claimed the in-state rivalry series over RSU.Â
The day saw Rogers State immediately go after the RiverHawks as AJ Folds hit a two-run slam over the wall in the top of the first to give the Hillcats an early multi-run lead.
C.D. White's start on the mound for Northeastern State was short, as he was removed from the game not long after and replaced with Moreno, who was a primary factor in the Hillcats being left off the board the rest of the way.
However, Northeastern State struggled to catch up early, as they did not find a run of their own until
Isaiah Keller netted an RBI single to drive home
Drew Miller.Â
Miller would account for the next RBI to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, with
Gage Williams providing the go-ahead score to bring home
Tyson Fourkiller. Miller's three hits led the NSU offense, which connected on ten hits across the late afternoon.
Moreno's strong day saw the junior strike out seven RSU hitters, while
Drake Sisemore added two more to receive a winning credit, his second of the year.
Northeastern State concludes the series tomorrow on the road in Claremore, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
