TAHLEQUAH –
Hannah Anderson provided enough offense for Northeastern State on Friday evening as the freshman scored both goals in a 2-1 win over East Central. The win lifted the RiverHawks to its first 5-0 start since the 2018 season and it is the sixth consecutive victory over the Tigers.
East Central (1-5) who made their first trip to Tahlequah since 2015 ended NSU's clean sheet with a goal in the 30th minute. The RiverHawks entered the match as one of eight remaining NCAA Division II programs to not allow a goal.
Anderson scored the equalizer eight minutes later and scored the game-winner in the 51st minute on a pass from
Sydney Taylor.
Despite the close score, the RiverHawks out-shot the Tigers 19-to-8 with ECU's keeper having ten saves. Anderson had four shots on goal and Taylor placed three on-target for NSU.
Northeastern State also moves to 5-0 on the year against teams from the Great American Conference and has not lost to ECU since 2000.
The RiverHawks close out its non-conference slate on Sunday with a trip to Missouri Southern. Kickoff in Joplin is set for 2 p.m.
