Women's Soccer gets past Missouri Southern, 3-1

JOPLIN, Mo. – An early red card did not slow down Northeastern State's offense as they rallied past Missouri Southern, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.  The RiverHawks closed out non-conference play with a 6-0 mark and it is their fifth consecutive win over the Lions.

Northeastern State's start is its best since its 2017 campaign where they opened with wins in their first ten matches.

Missouri Southern (1-4-2) pulled ahead after landing a shot in the 38th minute and offensively they were limited to just two opportunities in each half.

Five minutes into the second half, Whitney Gentry got an equalizer for her fourth goal of the season.  Brynn Baldon scored the match-winner in the 66th minute off a pass from Hannah Anderson.   Rachel Reed landed her first goal during the 70th minute as the RiverHawks out-shot the Lions 23-to-4.

The RiverHawks close out its non-conference slate as one of three teams nationally undefeated through its opening six matches.

NSU opens its MIAA slate on Thursday at Central Missouri.  Kickoff in Warrensburg is at 6 p.m.
