Northeastern State Falls to Pittsburg State in Road Contest, 88-56

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Northeastern State struggled to keep pace with Pittsburg State, falling 88-56 in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association game Saturday afternoon at John Lance Arena.

The RiverHawks (5-8, 1-3 MIAA) were led by Deyanna Douglas, who scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed two rebounds, and Courtney Lee, who added 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Northeastern State shot 31.7% from the field and struggled from beyond the arc, converting only 4-of-16 attempts.

Pittsburg State opened the game on a strong note, outscoring Northeastern 25-14 in the first quarter. The Gorillas hit four three-pointers in the period and capitalized on the RiverHawks' shooting woes. NSU never led in the contest as Pittsburg State built a 44-27 halftime lead, thanks to their 11 three-pointers and dominance on the boards.

Northeastern State was out-rebounded 43-26 and struggled in the second half making just four buckets in each of the remaining stanzas.  The Gorillas scored 20 points off 14 Northeastern turnovers and added 15 fast-break points to keep the RiverHawks on their heels.

Pittsburg State's (12-2, 4-0 MIAA) Macie Mays had a perfect shooting night, scoring 30 points on 10-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-4 from three-point range.  The Gorillas made ten of their final 11 shot attempts and had four players in double-figures.

The RiverHawks will return home for the next three contests, starting on Thursday when they will host Central Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m.
