Glenn, Neilson Lead NSU to 79–74 Victory

TAHLEQUAH, Okla.  – Xavier Glenn scored 22 points in his Northeastern State debut, and true freshman Harry Neilson powered his way to a double-double as the RiverHawks held off Arkansas–Monticello 79-74 on Friday night.

Glenn shot 8 of 11 from the field and added a 3-pointer while committing no turnovers in 33 minutes. Neilson finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds, including four on the offensive end, providing NSU a steady interior presence in his first collegiate game.

Taven Washington added 14 points, and Nehemiah Weber chipped in 13 for the RiverHawks, who led 40–38 at halftime and shot 19 of 24 from the free-throw line. Northeastern State also forced 10 steals and outscored the Boll Weevils 42-30 in the paint.

The RiverHawks led by ten minutes in the final four minutes and held off the Monticello, who took advantage of a pair of key late turnovers to trim down the lead 75-72 with 90 seconds left.  Free throws from Weber and Reed iced the game in favor of NSU as they claimed their first win over UAM since 1988.

Jakob Zenon led Arkansas-Monticello with 21 points on seven made 3-pointers, while Josh Smith scored 19 and Ashton Price added 14 with eight rebounds.

Northeastern State (1-0) returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against Minnesota Crookston (0-1).
