Three-Run Homer Dooms Softball in 6-4 loss to Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Brynn Burchfield had a two-RBI game but the RiverHawks couldn't recover from a three-run homer by Ouachita Baptist in the fifth and fell 6-4 on Saturday.

The RiverHawks matched the Tigers with seven hits but left eight runners on base as they will start off their opening weekend 1-3 overall.

Ouachita (3-1) scored early, plating two runs in the second inning.  The RiverHawks were able to cut the OBU lead in half, with Burchfield hitting an infield single to score Jersey Retzloff in from third.

After a scoreless frame, the Tigers took advantage of a one-out walk and error to hit a three-run homer expanding their lead to 5-1 over the RiverHawks.

In the sixth, NSU pulled back within two of the Tigers, scoring on a ground ball out and a Burchfield single.  Ouachita grabbed a run back in the bottom half scoring on a single up the middle.

Madison Nance gave the RiverHawks their fourth run in the seventh as they would end the game with the tying run at the plate.

Korynn Tindel (0-1) went 5 1/3 innings in her first start of the season and struck out four batters.  Delia Smith recorded the final two outs in relief.

The RiverHawks return to action on Friday, where they will play in a softball crossover in Bentonville, Arkansas.
