The RiverHawks (2-5) jumped out to an early lead as Gage Williams launched a two-run homer in the first inning. However, the offense stalled from there, managing just four hits the rest of the way.
UC Colorado Springs (5-2) broke through in the sixth, scoring their first run before tying the game in the eighth. The Mountain Lions sealed the win with two runs in the ninth, taking advantage of an NSU fielding miscue and a timely RBI single.
Murphy Bostick delivered a strong start on the mound for Northeastern State, striking out nine while allowing just one unearned run over 5 1/3Â innings.Â
Defensively, the RiverHawks committed three errors, leading to two unearned runs. Offensively, NSU left seven runners stranded and failed to score in the final eight innings.
UC Colorado Springs managed just four hits but capitalized on seven walks. Bryce Peterson led the Mountain Lions with three hits, including a solo home run.
GAME TWO | Northeastern State 4, UC Colorado Springs 3
A three-run sixth inning lifted Northeastern State to a 4-3 win over UC Colorado Springs on Friday at Rousey Field, snapping a two-game skid.
The RiverHawks (3-5) trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth but capitalized on timely hitting and a key UC Colorado Springs (5-3) miscue to take the lead for good.
UCCS opened the scoring with a solo home run from Hayden Iverson in the fourth, then extended its lead with runs in the sixth and seventh. However, the Mountain Lions couldn't answer after NSU's late-inning surge.
Gage Williams sparked the rally with a double, and Austin Rees followed with an RBI single for the tying run. Moments later, Mason Ruiz drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly before Joseph Perry plated an insurance run with another sac fly.
Sullivan Lane tossed a scoreless seventh inning to secure the save. Gus Collins (1-0) went six innings and struck out five batters on 99 pitches.Â
