RiverHawks homer twice in 18-7 loss to Hillcats

TAHLEQUAH — Eleven runs for Rogers State across the first two innings sunk Northeastern State in their MIAA home opener in an 18-7 setback on Friday at Rousey Field.

Gus Collins got the start on the mound, but only tossed the first inning after allowing five runs (all unearned after an error tagged against Korben Ford). Drake Sisemore and Cristian Hernandez saw parts of the second frame and each allowed two earned before the RiverHawks gave the ball to Trey Havens. Havens went on to pitch a career-high 5.1 innings, striking out five in the loss. Brazen Bockius and Ashton Durham also saw time in relief.

Offensively, NSU (6-6, 3-1 MIAA) recorded eight hits on the game and scored a three-run homer with Diego Murillo in the first. Mason Ruiz would go on to double in the fifth inning to begin a two-run burst in the frame and Korben Ford provided a two-run blast in the seventh. Ultimately, the RiverHawks couldn't mount a major comeback bid against the Hillcats (9-2, 1-0 MIAA), who halted NSU's four-game winning streak.

NSU is in Claremore tomorrow to face RSU at 2 p.m.
