CLAREMORE -- Northeastern State fell 5-1 to Rogers State on Saturday afternoon at the RCB Bank Sports Complex in a conference matchup. The RiverHawks struggled to generate offense, scoring just one run on seven hits, while the Hillcats capitalized early to secure the win.
Rogers State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by Andrew Ramirez's three-run home run. The Hillcats added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings to seal the victory.
Northeastern State's lone run came in the seventh inning when Holden Yoder doubled to bring home Tanner Almond. Almond was a bright spot for the RiverHawks, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Despite loading the bases in the seventh, Northeastern State couldn't push across any more runs.
Braxton Jones took the loss for the RiverHawks, pitching a complete game but allowing five runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two. Rogers State's Ky Decker earned the win, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just one hit with five strikeouts. Landon Riley picked up the save with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The loss drops Northeastern State to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play. They will look to bounce back Sunday in Tahlequah to close out the three game series with RSU.
