EDMOND, Okla. — Northeastern State was dealt a pair of setbacks Monday to wrap up their participation in the 2025 Edmond First Pitch Classic, falling to Southeastern Oklahoma in a 10-9 decision before being handed a 13-5 setback in the late game against Oklahoma Baptist.
The RiverHawks (0-3) fell into an early 6-0 hole across the first three innings against the Savage Storm (1-2), but pieced together a valiant comeback bid that saw the matchup tied at nine in the top of the eighth. Southeastern logged the go-ahead score in the bottom of the frame to secure the escape from NSU.
Gage Williams led with three hits, while Colton Ayres and Jackson Dillingham provided two. Diego Murillo gave the RiverHawks their first home run of the season in the loss, which was tagged on Korben Ford after allowing the final run of the game from the mound.
In the late game, Holden Yoder struck an immediate blow in the opening inning against Oklahoma Baptist (1-2) with a two-RBI homer, driving in himself and Murillo. Another two-run blast from Tanner Almond to additionally bring home Zach Burnes gave NSU a 4-0 lead. The Bison would go on to score 13 unanswered, including ten in the sixth to place the matchup out of reach and hand NSU their second loss of the day. Three different NSU pitchers allowed three earned, with the loss placed on Caleb Reynolds.
