SAN ANGELO, Texas –
Tegan Heaton claimed a three-set win on court two but Northeastern State would fall at No. 16 Angelo State 6-1 on Friday afternoon. The senior took set two 7-6 and rallied in a pro set 10-6.
"Things didn't quite go our way today, but I thought we made some major strides from last week," head coach Tim McLane said. "I was really happy with our doubles, and we had our chances to take that point. In singles, for the most part, I thought we played pretty well and had good energy as a team."
Lucia Bontempo pushed her Rambelles counterpart to three sets on court five but lost 2-6, 6-4, 8-10.
In doubles, Bontempo and
Camila de Michele took Angelo State to an extra point but fell 7-5 on court three.
Sofia Kotliarova and
Annika Kleinhans dropped court two, 6-4.
"We just need to do a better job of executing on the important points. Big one tomorrow against Texas A&M-Kingsville, so we've got to recover from the heat and get our legs back under us so we're ready to go," McLane added.
Angelo State (3-0) claimed its 20th consecutive home win and clinched the match on court four.
The RiverHawks will remain in San Angelo on Saturday to face Texas A&M-Kingsville at noon.
