Northeastern State struggled offensively, managing just three hits in a 4-0 loss to Missouri Western on Friday at the Spring Sports Complex.
The RiverHawks (6-17, 0-5 MIAA) couldn't generate momentum at the plate, failing to push a run across despite a double from Macie Sawney and a pair of singles.
Missouri Western (16-8, 5-2 MIAA) struck early, plating two runs in the first inning and adding two more in the fifth. The Griffons took advantage of four walks and eight hits, including a key two-run single to pad their lead.
Madison Heinle (2-7) started and went two innings before being relieved for Braedyn Sheofee who spun the final four innings.Â
GAME TWO | Northeastern State 4, Missouri Western 2
Northeastern State used a strong start and solid pitching to take down Missouri Western 4-2 on Friday at the Spring Sports Complex, snapping a five-game conference skid.
The RiverHawks (7-17, 1-5 MIAA) jumped out early, scoring two runs in the third inning before adding insurance runs in the fourth and sixth. Missouri Western (16-9, 5-3 MIAA) was held scoreless until the final inning, managing just five hits against NSU's pitching staff.
Gracie Turner (3-2) delivered a dominant performance in the circle, tossing six shutout innings before allowing two runs in the seventh.Â
At the plate, Northeastern State collected eight hits, with Maddie Messenger and Madison Heinle each doubling. Korynn Tindel, Lauryn Heinle, and Charlea Cochran all contributed a RBI.
Missouri Western struggled to string together hits, leaving nine runners stranded. The Griffons' only offense came in the seventh when they pushed across two runs on a late double. However, Braedyn Sheofee entered in relief and secured the final three outs to earn her second save of the season.
