TAHLEQUAH — Northeastern State tallied ten runs with ten base hits, yet fell short at the hands of Washburn in a 21-10 loss at Rousey Field on Saturday night.
After the Ichabods (13-10, 6-5 MIAA) pulled ahead on an early 4-0 run, the RiverHawks (9-11, 6-5 MIAA) answered with five scores in the bottom of the second. A six-run top of the third from WU placed the visitors back in charge (10-5), though NSU placed three unanswered across the plate to cut the deficit to two runs (10-8) entering the fifth.
Washburn finished on an 11-2 run the rest of the way and held Northeastern off the board in the last three innings to secure the 11-run victory after eight frames.
Jackson Dillingham, Mason Ruiz and Austin Albright logged two base hits each, with Dillingham and Albright reaching an additional time off a drawn walk. Colton Ayres drove in three runs during the defeat. Gus Collins was assessed the loss from the mound after allowing nine runs (seven earned) in two innings.
The RiverHawks host Washburn and wrap up the three-game series with a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
