TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State came up short against Drury, falling 8-4 Friday evening at Rousey Field in non-conference action.
The RiverHawks (10-13) tallied nine hits and plated four runs but couldn't overcome Drury's big innings, as the Panthers (13-11) struck for three runs in the third and added five more across the middle frames.
Colton Ayres and Austin Albright each collected two hits for NSU, with Ayres driving in a run and swiping a base.
Drury's offense was powered by Connor Bain's three-run homer in the third and Cannon Stuckey's solo shot in the fourth. Gabe Russell chipped in two hits, while Jackson Crider drove in a key run for the Panthers.
Gus Collins (3-3) took the loss on the mound for Northeastern State, allowing five on six hits over four innings. The RiverHawks' bullpen combined for five innings, giving up two earned runs.
Defensively, NSU committed no errors and turned a double play but left nine runners stranded on base offensively.
Drury starter Gabe Hayes (4-0) earned the win, striking out six over six innings while scattering nine hits and two earned runs. Brady Childs picked up his second save, pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
Northeastern State will look to bounce back as the series continues for a doubleheader on Saturday at Rousey Field.
