Baseball Drops Extra Inning Contest At Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE – Northeastern State fought into extra innings but could not capitalize on key opportunities, falling 6-5 in 10 innings to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday night at Bobby Cox Field.

The RiverHawks (10-17) put up an early fight, scoring a run in the third inning and adding two more in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. However, Oklahoma Baptist (18-11) responded with two runs in the fifth to tie the game.

A solo run in the seventh put NSU back on top, but the Bison quickly answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half to seize a 5-4 advantage. The RiverHawks managed to force extra innings with a clutch RBI fly in the eighth but left multiple runners stranded in the same frame.

In the bottom of the tenth, Oklahoma Baptist delivered the decisive blow with a walk-off sacrifice fly to seal the victory.

NSU registered four hits while committing four errors in the field. The RiverHawks also left nine runners on base, missing chances to add insurance runs late in the game.

Diego Murillo led the offense with two hits and a run scored, while Mason Ruiz and Jake Woodring both tallied an RBI. Brodie Scott got the start on the mound, allowing one run over three innings.

Northeastern State will look to bounce back on Wednesday for an MIAA contest at Central Oklahoma.
