PITTSBURG, Kan. -- A costly two-out error in the third inning unraveled Northeastern State in a 14-4 setback against Pittsburg State on Saturday, sealing a series win for the Gorillas.
The miscue opened the door for a seven-run rally by Pittsburg State (21-7, 11-7 MIAA), handing the RiverHawks (10-20, 7-9 MIAA) their second straight loss of the series.
Northeastern State managed seven hits, highlighted by home runs from Diego Murillo and Holden Yoder. Finley Bunch had a productive day at the plate, reaching base three times with a pair of walks and a double in the third inning.
The RiverHawks turned to four pitchers on the mound, with starter Braxton Jones (4-3) going 2.2 innings in his eighth start of the season.
Pittsburg State collected 11 hits en route to their third consecutive victory.
The series finale is set for Sunday at noon.
