Northeastern State Secures 8-2 Win Over Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Northeastern State used a steady offensive attack and strong pitching to take down Missouri Western, 8-2, on Saturday at the Spring Sports Complex.

The RiverHawks (8-8, 5-3 MIAA) capitalized on early scoring opportunities, plating two runs in both the second and fourth innings to build an early cushion. They added insurance runs in the later innings, scoring in the seventh, eighth, and ninth to secure the win.

Despite managing just five hits, NSU took advantage of seven walks, five hit batters, and aggressive baserunning to keep pressure on the Griffons (1-15, 0-8 MIAA). Diego Murillo led the way with a double and a run scored, while Korben Ford and Colton Ayres each drove in a run.

On the mound, Braxton Jones (3-1) was dominant, tossing seven innings of two-run ball while striking out eight and allowing just six hits. Trey Havens and Izac Sizemore combined for two scoreless innings of relief to close out the game.

Missouri Western's lone offensive burst came in the sixth inning, when it plated two runs on a double. The Griffons left 10 runners stranded and struggled against NSU's pitching staff.

The RiverHawks will look to take a series sweep against Missouri Western on Sunday.
