Northeastern State Drops Back-and-Forth Battle to Missouri Western, 13-11

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Despite a strong offensive performance, Northeastern State couldn't hold off Missouri Western's late surge, falling 13-11 on Sunday at the Spring Sports Complex.

The RiverHawks (8-9, 5-4 MIAA) jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first and then adding a pair of runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to keep pace with the Griffons (2-15, 1-8 MIAA).

Austin Rees led the NSU offense, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two stolen bases. Mason Ruiz doubled twice and drove in a run, while Austin Albright added two RBI. NSU totaled 11 hits but left 14 runners stranded.

Missouri Western took control late, and overtook the RiverHawks with a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning. The Griffons collected 12 hits, including three home runs, and took advantage of six walks and two hit batters.

On the mound, Murphy Bostick started for NSU, allowing five runs over 2.1 innings. The RiverHawks used five relievers, with Sullivan Lane (0-1) taking the loss after surrendering five runs in three innings.
