FORT SMITH, Ark. - Arkansas-Fort Smith scored nine straight runs to hand Northeastern State a midweek loss in a 10-2 setback on Tuesday.
The scoring began for the Lions (10-21, 5-16 MIAA) with a three-run first inning, followed by another plated score in the second and three more runs in the fourth. The middle of action saw the hosts score additionally in the fifth and sixth to get to a 9-0 advantage before NSU (10-22, 7-11 MIAA) ended the drought by scoring on a
Mason Ruiz RBI triple in the seventh.
Gage Williams would go on to drive in Ruiz next. UAFS would send one more across the plate in the eighth.
The RiverHawks landed six base hits and surrendered 13, with
Holden Yaksick starting on the mound and lasting 3.2 innings in the loss. Yaksick allowed eight hits and was tagged with the loss, while
Trey Havens and
Jackson Hill saw time in relief.Â
Diego Murillo was the only NSU batter to record multiple hits, logging two, including a double.
Northeastern State is scheduled to face Northwest Missouri in a series spanning Friday through Sunday at Rousey Field, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
