PRYOR, Okla. – Northwest Missouri pulled away in the ninth inning to hand Northeastern State a 14-2 setback in game one of a doubleheader at Pryor High School's Tiger Field.
The Bearcats (16-16, 10-9 MIAA) took the early lead, hitting a two-out homer over the right field fence. Northeastern State (10-23, 7-12 MIAA) cut the advantage in half with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
It would take until the eighth before Northwest tallied a third run off a homer to right field. In the bottom frame, Gage Williams hit a solo homer to left before the contest went sideways for the RiverHawks with Northwest scoring 11 in the ninth.
Williams had three of NSU's seven hits, and Braxton Jones (4-4) pitched into the ninth and punched out nine Bearcat hitters.
