TAHLEQUAH - A six-run fourth inning from Southeastern Oklahoma State sank Northeastern State's hopes of a Tuesday sweep, with the RiverHawks being dealt a 13-5 loss to wrap up midweek non-conference action at RiverHawks Park.
Korynn Tindel plated a run for the RiverHawks in the opening frame, scoring from third on a sacrifice fly from
Lauryn Heinle after a leadoff triple. Southeastern needed an inning and evened the game on a bases loaded hit by pitch. In the bottom half of the third, NSU pulled back ahead 3-1 with
Madison Heinle sending two home on a single up the middle.Â
The Savage Storm returned the favor and retook the lead in the fourth, sending ten batters to the plate and scoring six during the frame. Southeastern added two more in the fifth before NSU scored
Jersey Retzloff on an infield out to make it a 9-4 ballgame. Â
Lauryn Heinle cut the Southeastern lead down to four with an RBI double to left field, her third base hit of the game, in the sixth before Southeastern added four more in the seventh.
The RiverHawks (12-26) fell victim to 12 base hits from Southeastern (19-20), while adding ten of their own. The Storm also benefited from four fielding errors from NSU, while the visitors saw three errors dealt against them.
NSU travels later in the week to play Fort Hays State on Friday and Nebraska Kearney on Saturday.
