TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State came within one out of a sweep but fell to No. 23 Pittsburg State, 3-1, in Friday's series finale.
The Gorillas scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh. Sophia Driver stole home to tie the game, and a dropped fly ball allowed two more runs to score, giving Pittsburg State the lead for good.
The RiverHawks (15-29, 8-14 MIAA) were held to two hits, both in the fourth inning.
Madison Heinle doubled to center, driving in her sister Lauryn from second for NSU's only run.
Korynn Tindel (1-5) threw 109 pitches and struck out two in the complete-game effort.
Pittsburg State (32-10, 13-3 MIAA) managed five hits and stranded six runners.
Northeastern State returns to action Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at Oklahoma Baptist.
