HAYS, Kan. — Northeastern State wrapped up their road trip with a 5-2 victory over Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (5-8, 3-1 MIAA) started strong early by claiming the doubles point, while three of NSU's four singles victories occurred in straight sets. Annika Kleinhans and Tegan Heaton registered triumphs to begin singles play, while Sofiia Kotliarova provided the clincher for the RiverHawks over the Tigers (12-6, 2-4 MIAA). Adel Ismagulova also earned a singles win in the Saturday effort.
"[It was a] good effort all around from our team today," head women's tennis coach Tim McLane noted, "maybe the best we have played as a unit this year, and it came at a good time because FHSU is a good squad this year."
McLane added that, "We've put ourselves in good position in the standings, so hopefully we can replicate that level going into our last three home matches."
Northeastern State returns home to battle Northwest Missouri on Apr. 16 at 2 p.m. to begin a three-match homestand.
