TOPEKA, Kan. -- Northeastern State fell in a 7-0 road defeat to No. 13 Washburn at the Washburn Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (6-11, 4-4 MIAA) saw their No. 1 doubles pairing of
Sofia Kotliarova and
Adel Ismagulova hold their own against the nation's fourth-ranked duo in Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs, though the hosts claimed a 6-4 result from the matchup. The Ichabods (16-2, 7-1 MIAA) would take the early edge by going on to claim the opening point in sweeping fashion, winning in No. 2 doubles in a 6-1 result and No. 3 doubles in a 6-3 victory.Â
Tegan Heaton went to three sets against a nationally-ranked singles competitor in Ubachs, claiming the opening set in commanding fashion (6-1) before Ubachs would bounce back to earn triumphs in the second (6-2) and third frames (10-2). The rest of singles action saw NSU fall in straight sets on the rest of the courts to WU, with Ismagulova additionally falling to a ranked foe in Tijaro.
NSU concludes the regular season tomorrow in the Sunflower state, taking on Emporia State at 12 p.m.
