WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Northeastern State was limited to two hits Saturday as a five-run seventh inning helped No. 3 Central Missouri hand the RiverHawks a 10-0 loss.
Colton Ayres and
Zach Burnes collected NSU's only hits, with Burnes the lone player to reach scoring position as the Mules clinched a series win.
Central Missouri (35-9, 26-6 MIAA) tallied 10 hits, with all nine players in the lineup reaching base. The Mules scored once in the first inning and added four runs in the fourth, three of which came on a home run to left field. Six walks and a hit-by-pitch in the seventh led to a five-run outburst that ended the game early via the 10-run mercy rule.
Braxton Jones (4-7) threw 110 pitches and worked into the seventh inning in his 12th start of the season.
With the loss, the RiverHawks dropped to 13-33 overall and 10-22 in MIAA play. The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. at UCM.
