WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Northeastern State earned their first win in Warrensburg over No. 3 Central Missouri since 2014, taking down the Mules in a 6-4 victory in the team's regular season road finale.
Mason Ruiz hit his seventh home run of the season in the opening frame, scoring Gage Williams to give the RiverHawks a 2-0 advantage. Zach Burnes extended the NSU lead to three with a ground ball RBI in the second.
Central Missouri grabbed a run back in the third off a ground ball double play. The RiverHawks added three more runs in the eighth with Williams hitting an RBI single up the middle and two more on bases loaded walks.
The Mules finished the game with three unanswered runs, but their comeback bid fell short in the bottom of the ninth. The win moves NSU to 14-33 overall and 11-22 in MIAA play entering the regular season's final week, while the loss halts UCM's ten-game winning streak and drops them to 35-10 overall and 26-7 in MIAA action.
On the mound, Izac Sizemore got the win after tossing seven innings and surrendering just one earned run and one walk. Jackson Hill finished the game with two innings pitched and earned the save.
Northeastern State closes out the regular season with a three game series with Missouri Southern starting on Thursday at Rousey Field.
