KEARNEY, Neb. — Northeastern State grabbed nine hits and landed eight runs in an 8-5 win to wrap up Monday's doubleheader against Nebraska Kearney.
Drew Hawkins opened up NSU's scoring by reaching on a fielder's choice to bring home Madison Nance in the second. While UNK (20-19, 6-8 MIAA) answered with a score of their own in the bottom of the inning, the RiverHawks (14-28, 7-13 MIAA) pressed back on the gas to plate four runners in the third, including three off of a home run from Madison Nance to take a 5-2 lead.
NSU would never surrender the lead during the last four frames, while they would add to their offensive tally with a two-RBI double from Taylor Nichols and a Korynn Tindel RBI double in the sixth.
Tindel and Nance led the NSU offense with two hits apiece, each homering in the win. Madison Heinle went the distance and earned the win from the circle, keeping the Lopers off the board in three of the last four innings.
The RiverHawks host Pittsburg State on Friday for a doubleheader at RiverHawks Park, beginning at 12 p.m.
