HAYS, Kan. -- Northeastern State's Carter Adams notched his fourth goal of the season in the second half, but Fort Hays State notched a 5-1 victory Wednesday night in GAC/MIAA men's soccer.
The Tigers (5-0-2, 1-0 MIAA) seized control early, striking three times in the first half. Agustin Ayala broke through in the 29th minute, followed by tallies from Tadhg Walsh and Bastian Carlman. Fort Hays kept rolling after halftime with goals from Federico Heinrich and Carlman to push the lead to 5-0.
Adams gave the RiverHawks (3-2-2, 0-1) a bright spot in the 63rd minute, slipping home his team-leading fourth goal of the year to break up the shutout.
Goalkeepers Cameron McColloch and Jaron Nobel combined for six saves as NSU was under pressure much of the night. Fort Hays put 11 of its 18 shots on frame, while the RiverHawks finished with 11 attempts, two on target.
Northeastern State will look to bounce back this Saturday at Newman.
