TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State women's basketball secured its second consecutive double-digit home win over Emporia State on Thursday evening, cruising to a 74–57 victory at the NSU Event Center.
Fueled by balanced scoring and a 50 percent shooting performance from the field, the RiverHawks (14-3, 6-2 MIAA) never trailed after the opening minutes and extended their lead to as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Gracy Shieldnight and
McKenzie Smith led the offensive charge, each tallying 13 points. Shieldnight also pulled down seven rebounds, while Smith matched her on the glass with seven of her own.
Deyanna Douglas added 11 points and four rebounds, and
Gabrielle Tilley chipped in 11 points along with a team-high seven assists.
NSU dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Hornets 21–11, and connecting on 5-of-10 from beyond the arc during the stretch. The RiverHawks finished 9-for-21 from long range overall and forced 19 turnovers to keep Emporia State in check.
The victory marks NSU's second straight time beating the Lady Hornets by double digits on their home court, reinforcing the RiverHawks' stronghold at the Event Center.
Emporia State (9-9, 3-6 MIAA) struggled offensively, shooting just 35.1 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from three-point range.
Northeastern State will look to keep the momentum going Friday evening when they host Newman at 5:30 p.m. at the NSU Event Center.
